Fun with the Terrain Engine!
by admin on April 24th, 2008, under Blo, Lab
We’ve started development of our next game, which means R&D time for me… yay! the best part!
After weeks of patient debugging, tuning and optimizing Besmashed, it feels good to be playing with Unity for what it does best: prototyping.
No more polished code and pixel-perfect GUI layouts: time for dirty 1-hour/day projects to get a feel of what we can squeeze out of the engine.
So while toying with the Terrain Engine, I came across Fractscape (a Unity-made terrain tool), which got me thinking of procedurally painting/terraforming the terrain, and other geekeries… then Chris came in, one thing lead to the other and bam, I find myself doing a pong… with the Terrain Engine.
Not that I’m that obsessed with pong (or am I?), it’s just the “hello world” of gaming. Anyway, here goes…

Please note:
- this demo needs the Unity plugin to run -don’t worry, if you haven’t got it yet it will auto-install smoothly.
- on Windows, the textures don’t move, only the heights… works fine on Mac though… maybe that because I’m using unsupported methods?
The cool thing: I don’t care
! ah, the joy of prototyping…
Characters showcase… at last!
by admin on December 14th, 2007, under Blo
Below is a demo of all of Fight Pong’s characters in live action: yay!
This took us forever and is the result of a lot of sweat and tears, but we’re very proud of it
.
Only one known bug so far: sometimes the characters won’t fire their super-attacks when bullet-time is enabled.
But if you notice anything else, or just want to tell us how awesome we are, or even join the Krog fan-club… well, don’t hesitate to drop a comment!
Now stop reading and click the picture below!

- this demo is the result of a work in progress, and isn’t necessarily representative of how fast the final game will run, etc, you know the drill…
- last, the final game will be available as a standalone Windows or Mac application, which will run much faster than in a browser on older computers.
Power-ups demo
by admin on December 1st, 2007, under Blo
Hello there, I’m Ben, Gamepulp’s lead programmer, and for my first post on this blog I wanted to show you a little internal demo we cooked up to test-drive all of the game powerups…
These items (power-up/down, weapon, special bonus) will appear as “crates” on the game area, so that the players can pick them up by shooting the ball onto them. Then of course, lots of other stuff and cool effects will happen depending on each items, but to see that you’ll have to wait for the final game
!
